Ole Miss Risk Management and Insurance Program
Established in 1947, the Risk Management and Insurance program is one of twelve U.S. based programs designated as a Global Center of Insurance Excellence. The demonstrable commitment to the education of our students is evidenced by the attraction of approximately 150 students from across the nation to our program, the placement of our students in meaningful industry positions and the recognition of our faculty at all levels. Employers continue to be drawn to the readiness of our students to enter the insurance industry both in terms of their knowledge and social skills. Substantial industry involvement in our program via our Insurance Advisory Board, our annual Insurance Symposium, biannual RMI Career Fairs, and the Ole Miss Insurance Classic golf tournament contributes greatly to the stability and success of the program. RMI students return to Ole Miss after summer internships
Thirty-five Ole Miss RMI students completed paid internships this summer in 12 states across the industry. In addition to gaining valuable experience, students earned up to 6 hours of credit for completing the summer internship. At the mid-point of their internships, students interviewed their supervisor and colleagues to learn what they should stop doing, keep doing, or start doing. At the end of their internships, students turned in a report that included a detailed analysis of their employer's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Employer feedback on our interns was unanimously positive and several interns received full-time job offers at the end of the summer.
Two students selected for prestigious program
Two Ole Miss RMI students were recently selected to participate in the Anita Benedetti Student Involvement Program (ABSIP). Madison Hardy and Alexandra Stoughton received an all-expense paid trip to attend the Risk and Insurance Management Society's (RIMS) annual conference in San Antonio, TX. They were among a limited number of students selected nationally to participate in the program, which provided the students with access to ABSIP-only programs during the conference. It was a rewarding educational and networking opportunity for them.
Memphis RIMS Chapter provided financial support for students to attend RIMS
The Ole Miss RMI program, through the support of the Memphis RIMS chapter, was able to send four students Hannah Clark, Nicole Georgis, Michael Haas and Tyler Walton to the RIMS conference in San Antonio. Among the highlights of the event were the networking opportunities with other students, observing the RIMS challenge competition, and an invitation only Coffee House with executives from Lloyds of London.
